The Law Library has briefs and records for some (but not all) cases decided by the South Carolina Supreme Court and South Carolina Court of Appeals from 1858 to 2014. These briefs and records are in print (not online). They are located in bound volumes in the S.C. Briefs & Records section of the Law Library's basement and can be retrieved by using the citation information in the SE Reporter column of your search results. In order to save our patrons unnecessary trips to the basement, we offer this searchable database.

Enter the information you know about the briefs and records you seek into the Search box at the top of the page. The results located in the database for your search will update as you type. You may sort your results by name of Appellant, name of Appellee, Date, SC Reports citation or SE Reporter citation. Note: Reporter citations in this database include leading zeros; for example, if the volume number for a citation is “21,” you will see “021” in your results.

We do not hold the briefs and records for all South Carolina cases. If we do not have the briefs and records you seek, try the South Carolina Supreme Court Library or the South Carolina Court of Appeals Library, because their collections of briefs and records are more complete than ours. Briefs and Records for cases from 2012-present may be available from the South Carolina Judicial Branch’s South Carolina Appellate Court Public Index.

For assistance locating briefs and records, please ask at Reference or Circulation.
